Spanish missionary St. Francis Xavier, a founder of the Jesuits, brought Christianity and trade goods to Japan in 1549. A small church grew there, but in 1597, Japan's ruler outlawed Christianity and ordered the crucifixion of 26 men in Nagasaki. As a St. Francis Xavier parishioner, Kristie Kiesel spent time at this site and will share insights from the culture and archeological dig, along with Japanese culinary treats. No charge; all are welcome to attend. Please register by March 20.
